4/21/09 Gable Cable #10

Hello! We will see you all at rehearsals tonight and tomorrow night, but just wanted to give you a few reminders for this week and Tech Week. But first, we want to thank the cast members who performed in the three previews we had over the spring break period -- what patience, dedication and enthusiasm you showed! Thanks to the parents who helped pass out flyers, drove everyone around, watched purses, handed out cookies and everything else! This great crew was a fantastic representation of our wonderful upcoming show! Thanks also to those who stepped in and played other parts, said other people's lines, etc. to make the preview work without the full cast available -- what troopers (and amazing understudies!) you all were!

Speaking of letting everyone know about our wonderful show...please make sure that you are either putting up the posters that are sitting in your car, or returning them to rehearsals if you are all tapped out as to where else to put them. Please make sure to put one up at your school (getting permission first, of course!) if one isn't there and to tell your friends, family and acquaintances to ORDER THEIR TICKETS! Tell your scout troop or church youth group about the $2 off per ticket discount for groups of 10 or more. Ask your school librarian if you can leave some of the bookmarks in the school library. We have lots of extra postcards -- mail them to friends, pass them out to people at the grocery store in line, in other words, get people to come see our great show! And, when the weather cools down tomorrow, send your cast member to school in their show shirt -- as we always say, the kids are a great walking advertisement!

The show banner if up in downtown San Mateo, the cool Susan-Melanson-designed graphic is up on the Burlingame Mike Harvey Acura sign! If you see the show mentioned in a local newspaper or magazine -- please let us know -- it will really help us in our future publicity efforts!!!

Still reading (c'mon, you will miss these e-mails, admit it...!)?! Please bring a PAPER BAG labeled with your cast member's name on it (one for each cast member, not per family) to SUNDAY's rehearsal. They will be getting their costumes at that time. Please do not worry if they do not have all their costume pieces -- they will get what is ready on Sunday and the rest will come soon. The shoes for the show will be black jazz shoes, but if the adults want to wear character shoes that is fine. If you have any other shoe variations, please check with Betsy Rice, head of the amazing costume committee. If you want to see if there are shoes available in our shoe exchange, please e-mail Sue Dooley (also let her know if you have outgrown shoes to give to the exchange) Girl's hair should be up for the shows (and also starting Weds. of Tech Week) -- at least away from their face in some sort of "partial" style. Girls who are playing boys should have their hair all the way up and will be wearing caps for the show.

For tech week, please have your cast member bring a quiet, non-electronic activity and blanket, as well as paper and pencil (this is to write down their spacing numbers -- there is a number on the stage corresponding to where they should stand for each scene/song so the cast can all be seen -- very important for those grandparents inthe audience to see those kids!). Most importantly, please keep Wendi's cell phone number handy to call and find out the status of when rehearsal will end, just in case the kids are released early or need to be held a bit longer (remember, you will be waiting for them in the lobby as Tech Week is closed rehearsals only). Wendi's cell is 678-5560.

Remember those labeled paper bags for Sunday!

You still here...?! Thank you!!!! -- Wendi and Leslie R.

4/10/09 Gable Cable #9

Hello! Happy Spring Break for those of you still on, or just beginning, your well-deserved vacation! When the kids go back to school is when vacation truly begins, though, right?! But, we digress...(remember we each have 4 kids and stay at home with them!)

The show is in full-court press now and we hope your publicity efforts are too. The signs are appearing around town, the beautiful banner is up in downtown San Mateo (on the bridge at Ellsworth, you see it when you are facing South) and the show is plastered on a bunch of entertainment websites (google the show!)

Please let us know if you see our show announced in a local paper or magazine -- our awesome publicity crew has submitted to a lot of different places and you can be our sleuths to see where we ended up. If you hear the show announced on the radio, please let us know!

Please keep putting up those posters and handing out those business cards and flyers. If you are doing a BIG passing out (your class, weeekends at the soccer fields) that is FANTASTIC -- please use the green half sheet flyers for these huge handing out sessions so we don't run out of the other materials, but please keep up the fantastic work! Please put the blurb in your school or activity newsletter if you were asked to do so by Julie Burkert of the publicity committee. Please get out that e-mail to all your e-mail list OR a reminder of the dates if you sent it already. ORDER YOUR TICKETS!!!!!! And, tell everyone else to order them too!!!!

Please bring any unused posters back to the next rehearsal so other cast members can get them up too. If you are putting them up, great! If they are sitting in your car, not so much...!

ARE YOU STILL READING???!!! Awesome! Please contact Kimberly Kroll or respond to this e-mail if you want a fun project OR have a contact to get us a few wigs. We need one red braided wig AND one long wig that can be dyed half-green. If you have a great idea for this, a wig at home, a wig connection...please let Kimberly know.

SPEAKING OF HOURS...are you fulfilling your volunteer hours (20 for the first child, 15 for each additional child)? If you need more hours, projects, or are just plain bored, please contact us.

Thanks for your continued enthusiasm and amazing support! -- Wendi and Leslie R.

3/25/09 Gable Cable #8

Our time with Prince Edward Island and all its inhabitants is intensifying! You can almost smell the ice cream (and cordial...!) If you don't know to what we are referring, borrow your cast member's script! It is an adorable show! Speaking of script, please make sure your cast member rehearses his/her lines, songs and dances at home. This will really help the rehearsals run smoothly. Don't forget to bring pencils, water and snack and to wear comfortable clothes as well!

Please read this whole e-mail...and all the e-mails we send...really, we don't do it for the heck of it -- we want you to stay informed and up-to-date!!

No Food at DAC

Speaking of snack - please remember NO EATING AT DAC!!! If your cast member is hungry, they can eat right outside of Studio C on a break. Thanks for helping us retain our fabulous relationship with this super great studio.

Cast List

We will be distributing a cast list shortly. If you do not want your address or phone number given out to the cast -- and have not already told us of this fact -- please send one of us a note to that effect.

Knickers

Remember, if you have a pair of pants that you are willing to donate to be turned into knickers, please bring them to rehearsal, give them to Leslie R., Wendi or Betsy Parkhurst, Nick and Jessica's mom.

Approaching deadlines

Kudos are due on Sunday, March 29th. You get a couple free -- so start writing!!

Bios are also due on Sunday, March 29th!

Playbill ads are due on April 3rd!

That's it for now...thanks for reading all the way down. We may start giving rewards for full e-mail reading to encourage ya'll to stay completely informed...!!! -- Wendi and Leslie R.

3/19/09 Gable Cable #7

Hello! Ready for a fun weekend of Anne rehearsals??!!

We have a request from our illustrious costume committee: if you have a pair of pants that you are willing to donate (they will be cut into knickers so you probably won't want them back!), please bring them to the next all cast rehearsal (or get them to Betsy Parkhurst, Leslie R. or Wendi) They are looking for solid color pants, preferably muted green, gray, brown, or tan. If your cast member is a Sugar and Spice "boy" it would be especially wonderful if you had pants that fit your cast member in the waist (if they are "floods" or, as they call them today, "capris" that is ok!) as that would make them an easy fix to be made into your daughter's knickers!

We have just a few reminders for you before the weekend gets started:

-- Please return your Family Publicity Survey at your rehearsal this weekend -- it will really help the publicity team know what activities you and your cast member participate in that have newsletters or bulletins for Anne promotion.

-- Please get the show dates on your friend and family's calendars now!!! At the bottom of this e-mail will be a sample blurb you can send to them to let them know about the show. People are busy these days and the earlier you let them know about the dates the better (then, of course, they need reminding in a few weeks too...!)

-- get working on those kudos -- a really fun way to recognize your cast member, their friends and the creative staff is through kudos -- the form is in your parent packet and can also be found on the PPP website. Kudos and cast member bios are due on March 29th.

-- if you are considering placing an ad in the playbill, start getting it organized -- it is due on April 3rd

-- headshots will be next weekend during an all cast rehearsal. We will let you know which day as the TBAs on the schedule fill up. Please have your cast member wear or bring a black t-shirt that day (plain, no writing, no tank tops please!)

Here is a sample blurb to e-mail to your family and friends. Please remember, most of our audience members come to the show because they heard about it from YOU!!! Please personalize it to add in who your cast members are and how excited they are about the show!

Pied Piper Players presents Anne of Green Gables May 1-10, 2009, at the Bayside Performing Arts Center in San Mateo. This bright musical relives the poignant and funny story of Anne Shirley, the spunky, red-headed orphan who comes to Prince Edward Island hoping to find a happy home. The musical is based on the century-old, beloved 1908 novel of the same name by L.M. Montgomery. The lively production features cast members ranging from age 5 to 75, a full orchestra and engaging choreography. With a subject matter appropriate for all ages, the show runs slightly over two hours, including intermission, Fridays through Sundays, May 1-10, with a special Talk Back session after the show on Sunday, May 3rd, where audience members can meet the cast and crew, take a backstage tour, and discover how theater magic is created. Tickets: Reserved $16 Adult, $10 Senior/Children under 13. For ticket information, please call 650-992-PIED (7433) or visit www.PiedPiperPlayers.org.

3/09/09 Gable Cable #6

Hi, everybody! Enjoying putting that whole bunch of rehearsals on your March calendar?! What a relief! Speaking of which, please look carefully at this Weds. and Thurs. nights -- the acting groups scheduled that night are now over the weekend instead. And, some ensemble rehearsals have been scheduled those nights.

STAND INs -

Since Leslie and Julie are starting to work on the blocking and dance routines, it is important for cast members to find a "stand in" if they are missing rehearsal. Stand ins are volunteers who will come to rehearsal and learn the blocking/ dance for the person that they are "standing in for." Then they help teach blocking/dance moves to the person that they "stood in for." Anyone can participate - cast members, siblings and parents. Let us know if you would like to help out and be a "stand-in".

REMINDERS --

Please remember to have your cast member's music in their binder, have them bring the binder, script, several pencils, water and snack to rehearsals (all labeled with their name). Several cast members have come to rehearsal not seeming prepared to take notes on blocking instructions. It is very helpful to write the blocking notes directly onto the script.

Please hand in your Family Publicity Surveys (the one handed out with your music cd) at your next rehearsal. Having this information will help us in getting a "blurb" about the show into many local newsletters.

The kudos deadline is March 29th, along with the cast member bio. Please start thinking of fun and supportive kudos to and from your cast member! The form is in your welcome packet and available online on the Pied Piper website. Sample cast bios can be found on the downloadable files section of our website.

Playbill ads are due on April 3rd. If you have a business, or a friend or neighbor with a business -- please consider an ad in our playbill. Our audience is wide-reaching and this is a great way to support Pied Piper Players and get your company name out there! Playbill ads are also a fantastic way to recognize your cast member -- please start thinking about these possibilities so the deadline does not sneak up on you! The form is in your welcome packet and online.

KEEPING YOU UP-TO-DATE

If you are looking for up-to-date cast lists or Who Sings What information, please look to the website. The files in the Yahoo Group are from the date when the information was first posted. If your cast member's group was changed at any point, you were notified. But, just in case you forget or want a refresher, the up-to-date accurate information is on the website.

We hope you have been enjoying the acting and dance workshops! By the end of March, each group will have had at least two acting workshops and also four dance workshops! We appreciate any feedback you may have now and also will have a formal time to do that at the end of the show. In the meantime, if we schedule you for two places at once, or you have a pre-existing conflict, let us know and you may be able to attend a different workshop for that missed session.

Most of you know by now, but we wanted to officially welcome Julie Mullen as our Anne of Green Gables choreographer! The kids really enjoyed the workshops and choreography sessions with Julie this weekend and we are looking forward to being challenged and having fun with Julie!

UPCOMING --

Headshots will be the weekend of March 28-29th. The exact time will be announced later. At that time your cast member will need to wear a plain black (non tank top) shirt and have their photo taken during rehearsal. These photos are posted in the lobby during the run of the show (along with your cast member's bio) -- they come out great -- taken by the fantastic David Dong -- and you will get to keep the photos after the show!

Many of our committees have started work in earnest on their tasks. Costumes and sets are not far behind, so stay tuned!

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks! -- Wendi and Leslie R.

3/01/09 Gable Cable #5

Hi! As the rain is coming down hard now, we hope your kids are tucked snugly in their beds as you wind down from a busy weekend! We wanted to give a few notes and reminders to start off the week:

-- there was a flurry of paper at the rehearsal today: some new music being handed out and some old music being shuffled around. We strongly recommend using a binder to hold the songs. We did not mention it before since the script is bound, but are realizing that the binder is the best way to go here! Please help your child order their music by page number (at the top), three hole punch it and put it into a binder with their name clearly marked on it. If there is interest (please respond to this e-mail if you are interested) we can have a 3-hole punch available, and even some free binders that we happen to have and can help your child make sure they have what they need, at an Organization Session before one of the upcoming all-cast rehearsals;

-- some children were pulled out today to be in additional songs; some were not (YET!) Every child will have a place to shine and to be in a song or dance routine that all 66 children are not in (for instance, maybe only 12 children will be in it, including your child) -- it is hard to do all the pull-outs in one day and we really needed to get all the music taught today -- so there was a bit of confusion as to who is in what number. Clarity will come soon -- but it is ok to learn a song your child is not in -- they generally love to learn all the music! Speaking of which -- we hope you are enjoying your CD! If there are any problems with yours, or if you did not get one today, please let us know. There is one CD per family as we assume most people will share them within the family (put it on the computer, iPods, car CD player, etc.) Please have your child listen to it and review his or her music -- they should be off book on all songs learned by the next rehearsal as they will be learning movement this weekend and should have the songs down before then;

-- Random request: does anyone have a red wig? a long braided wig? one that is both (that would be the jackpot!) If so, please respond to this e-mail and let us know! Perhaps your daughter was Jessie from Toy Story 2 one Halloween...??

-- Along with the CDs today, we handed out a Family Publicity Survey-- please fill this out and bring to the next all cast rehearsal -- it will really help our awesome publicity team to get the word out as far and wide as possible to the greater community.

-- Stay tuned for a mega-rehearsal schedule -- the staff is meeting all day tomorrow to get started putting it together! As always, please feel free to come to us with any questions or concerns! --
Wendi and Leslie R.

2/24/09 Gable Cable #4

Greetings Anne of Green Gables Families! While it may not be Ice Cream weather yet, the creative and production staffs are happy our celebration of Anne, Prince Edward Island...and ice cream...is well underway! We look forward to a fantastic week of rehearsals (and the schedule for this weekend will be out soon...!)

Just a few reminders:

-- costume forms are over due -- please turn them in on Saturday

-- non-cast member t-shirt orders are due on Sunday

-- we wanted to clarify the dance and acting groups: these are for learning purposes and the placement in them was based on auditions as well as age considerations. They are not show groups and are merely so the cast can all improve and take advantage of our creative staff's expertise in their respective areas. The more the cast is grouped with similarly situated peers, the more he/she will get out of these amazing workshops! That being said, if it appears to the creative staff that there has been an error in placement, they will correct the error.

-- Our own Jacquie Phillips has made an MP3 file on her computer of some of the songs while the cast was rehearsing with Rick. If anyone is more computer-literate than your humble producers (wait, that would be everybody...) and knows how to compress a file, perhaps with a thumb drive (??!!), please let us know. Jacquie would love to share the file with the cast. Also, you will be getting cd's of the music soon.

-- there will be a Publicity Committee Meeting this weekend. You may not know it, but Julie Burkert, Claire Conway, Patti Lawrence, Linda Shapiro, Stacey Fradkin and Marjan Javaherian, you are all on the Publicity Committee (actually, everyone is -- it is the job of all of us to get the word out!) We will be announcing the meeting time after the rehearsal schedule is set. If anyone we didn't name would like to join us, we would love to have you!

-- last, but not least, please join us at the PPP Magic Event at Oracle on Friday night. If you would like to come, but haven't RSVP'd yet, please just let us know and we will get you in! We have exciting live and silent auctions this year. If you cannot make the event, please look at the items as absentee/proxy bids are available! Please paste this link into your browser to peek at the items:
http://www.piedpiperplayers.org/2008_Fundraiser_Magic.htm#AUCTION

If the link does not work, just visit our PPP home page (www.piedpiperplayers.org) and you will find the items pretty easily from the Magic Event information.

Thanks and we look forward to seeing you this weekend! -- Wendi and Leslie

Now that we know our rehearsal schedule, we have a few reminders!

First, speaking of the rehearsal schedule, we wanted to clarify, that we know many of you have conflicts this weekend -- what we meant to
say was that we worked around those conflicts that were for a few hours only and tried to make your group meet at a time you were available that day. We know a lot of people have conflicts this weekend due to vacation and the Baywood Talent Show and we have those
on file from your conflict forms. Sorry for any confusion on that score!

Please bring your completed costume form on Saturday if you didn't hand it in already -- we have a big cast and it would be great to get started!

Our committees are starting to get organized. If you did not get a chance to sign up for a committee, or want to add one to your list, let us know. We have openings for a publicity coordinator (track the different publicity tasks), a green room guru (keep the green room stocked and organized during the shows)and a playbill ad salesperson (join our playbill team and help sell ads). Please let us know if you are interested in one of these areas.

If you want to order a t-shirt for a non-cast member, the form is due on February 28th.

Please remember to label your water bottles; do not share hair brushes and hats; bring pencils, your script and music to rehearsals; and bring a snack to longer rehearsals (and a recording device to music rehearsals if you have one).

Directions!
Just in case you need them for this weekend, here are directions to Dance Arts Center - 595 Industrial Road, San Carlos
(From Highway 101, exit Holly Street heading west. Make an immediate left onto Industrial Road. DAC is beind Velocity Sports Performance which is at Industrial and E. San Carlos. Turn left on E. San Carlos to find parking adjacent to the studio. There is parking in the back as well).

And, finally a message from Sue Dooley with an exciting announcement:
Announcing the PPP Shoe Swap!
Have a drawer full of leftover jazz shoes you don't know what to do with? Would you like them to go to a good home, or even better, trade them for a size you actually do need? PPP will be facilitating a jazz shoe swap at an upcoming rehearsal. If you want to participate, please email me with the actual size and color of the jazz shoes that you are willing to donate to the cause, and also make note of the size and color you hoping to find. Requests for sizes will be honored in the order they are received, and should eliminate a lot of trying on of shoes. Shoes should be in "decent working condition" and we'll have a can of antifungal you can use the day of the swap! If we find a match for you, we will email you with the information on whose shoes to look for. Any questions, please contact Sue Dooley at sue.c.dooley@gmail.com.

Thanks for your continued support and patience. -- Wendi and Leslie
R.

1/25/09 Gable Cable #2

Hi all -

Welcome to Gable Cable No. 2 and our first official Yahoo Group message (our fingers and toes are crossed right now!)

Speaking of the Yahoo Group, if you did not get this message at all the e-mail addresses where you would like to receive our
communications, just let us know and we will add other addresses for you (including kids, if you would like!)

We are looking forward to seeing everyone this coming week at auditions!!

Leslie and Wendi

ps - Have we mentioned that we need your emergency forms? Please, bring them to the auditions. Thanks!

Here are your reminders for the week:

1. Auditions - Tues., 1/27 - Fri., 1/30 - Borel Middle School - classroom 4 (Paula's classroom)
The audition schedule can be found at
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=ptMyfphsVh3E_mLzGAC9oHg

For auditions -
- please plan to arrive 10 minutes early
- please bring PIANO sheet music, the pianist will not be able to use music that is meant for choral only
- bring your sheet music, completed audition information (with photo attached), participation agreement and completed conflict calendar
- during the audition, parents will sign up for committee work (committee descriptions are located in the Company Handbook), so
please plan on speaking with us while your child auditions
- call backs are scheduled for Saturday, January 31 and (if needed) Sunday, February 1st
-if you are unable to attend your scheduled audition time, please, let us know as soon as possible.

Remember - Please have the actor bring sheet music in their key. It should not be expected that an accompanist can transpose music on
demand. Also, remember to practice the song, out loud, with a piano (live or recorded). Not rehearsing your audition with the piano
music can throw an actor in the audition. In addition, rehearsing the monologue out loud will best prepare the actor for the audition.

2. Dance Auditions - Dance Arts Center - 595 Industrial Road, San Carlos
- Come to one time slot on* Saturday, January 31st - 10 to 12 or 12:30 - 2:30*. There is no need to sign up - just show up! (You do
not need to prepare anything for this audition.) If you cannot make either time, please, let us know.
- wear comfortable clothes and shoes - no barefeet!
- bring a bottle of water
- bring completed emergency form
- directions - From Highway 101, exit Holly Street heading west. Make an immediate left onto Industrial Road. DAC is behind Velocity Sports Performance which is at Industrial and E. San Carlos. Turn left on E. San Carlos to find parking adjacent to the studio.

3. Callbacks - Borel Middle School - classroom 4 (Paula's classroom)
- call backs are scheduled for Saturday, January 31 and (if needed) Sunday, February 1st

Callbacks happen after auditions. The directors call some actors back for more auditions to see actors in different roles specific to the show. At a call back audition, the actors will be taught a song, dance or be asked to read from a script. In our company, part of what the directors are looking for is not necessarily how well you do in a particular role or song, but your potential and how well you take direction. Most especially, we have an eye out for behavior. Talking and/or not paying attention during callbacks is noted and can work against the actor.

4. Character Descriptions

- available on line

That's it for now! See you this week!!!

1/17/09 Gable Cable #1

Hello Everyone!
Thank you so much for coming to the company meeting last week. We enjoyed
seeing the veteran families and meeting the new families.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
Thanks!
Wendi and Leslie

ps - Have we mentioned that we need your emergency form..

1. Notes from Leslie Stupple....

AUDITION WORKSHOPS - Everyone can learn from a workshop. For the workshop to be most effective, the actor should bring a prepared monologue with them. We review form and how auditions work, but actors can get specific feedback regarding their monologue if they have one prepared.

AUDITIONS - Please have the actor bring sheet music in their key. It should not be expected that an accompaniast can transpose music on demand. Also, remember to practice the song, out loud, with a piano (live or recorded). Not rehearsing your audition with the piano music can throw an actor in the audition. Also, rehearsing the monologue out loud will best prepare the actor for the audition.

CALLBACKS - Callbacks happen after auditions. A NOTE TO THE NERVOUS - Our company is dedicated to helping you succeed!! While it feels quite nerve-wracking, no one has yet to faint or get physically ill. I have never had anyone tell me that they weren't glad they went through with the audition process. Please read the audition tips (on our website) and concentrate on the #1 key to success in your audition - relaxation. We are willing and happy to help you get through your audition if you let us try.
